Choosing a compact SUV isn’t easy, no question about that. There are several SUV options on the market, including the 2019 Honda CR-V and the 2019 Hyundai Tucson. Both models are among the most popular SUVs in the market and are also among the best-selling models in the country, all segments combined. Obviously, they offer a lot to their future owner otherwise they would not be so successful. That said, the 2019 Honda CR-V has the advantage over the 2019 Hyundai Tucson when it comes to space, engine and cargo capacity. Let's take a closer look.
A single engine that offers more in the 2019 Honda CR-V
The engine in the 2019 Honda CR-V is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder that develops 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. This engine offers a nice combination of performance and fuel economy. It averages only 8.7 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway even with AWD which is frankly impressive.
The Hyundai Tucson offers two engines starting with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder developing 161 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque that is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine is less powerful than the CR-V, but it averages more with a fuel consumption of 10.8 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 9.2 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway. The Hyundai Tucson's other engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, which consumes an average of 11.0 liters per 100 kilometers and 9.1 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway.
In addition to being less fuel-efficient than the 2019 Honda CR-V, the Hyundai Tucson has a lot less space with 878 liters of cargo space compared to more than 1,110 liters for the CR-V. In short, the Honda has more space, more power and better fuel economy. It is not surprising that it does so well when it comes to sales.
